wardrobe staples: stripes

I have noticed a slight trend in my outfits: stripes. I have a few different striped pieces that I wear often, and try to do different combinations when I can.
Here are a few striped pieces I have and how I've worn them:

the navy and white striped dress
I wore this dress SO much last summer. It is so versatile! Navy is a fun neutral to play with no matter the season. Have fun and lighten up navy stripes with contrasting brights!

the blue and white striped mid-sleeve sweatshirt
Another summer look, this was a comfortable outfit to wear on a brisk, July evening. The pale summer blue stripes complimented the soft shade of red on the hat.

the semi-sheer red striped t-shirt
I wore this t-shirt with leggings, a knit vest, mittens, and rain boots for a cozy look at my friend's cabin this winter. Striped t-shirts are great for layering during the cold months and downplay bagginess or oversized-ness (is that a word? haha) of a vest.

the orange and cream striped tank
I've gotten a lot of use out of this tank too. One of my favorite color combos is orange and green, and I've been wanting to try out the color combo since I saw an outfit Blair wore on Gossip Girl season 1. I finally chose orange stripes over pink when I was shopping (one of the reasons I haven't done orange-and-green is because I always choose a different color!) and I'm glad I did. Bright orange stripes add a pop of color to neutral olive, or contrast against a kelly green hue.

the red and navy striped belt
Wearing the red and navy striped belt broke up the solids of the rest of the outfit and complimented the other accessories.

the olive striped t-shirt
It is no mystery that I LOVE this t-shirt. I've had it for a while and wear it all. the. time. You've seen it in a gazillion of my outfit posts and will probably see it in a gazillion more! I chose three of my favorite outfits with this piece. I never thought I'd get so much use out of a striped t-shirt, but because of its neutrality and simple pattern, it goes with pretty much everything and has become a major staple in my wardrobe.

paris sweater

Sweater Wildfox Couture Pants F21 (similar here) Boots Corso Como Watch Michael Kors Bracelets F21 (similar hereRing Henri Bendel

These olive pants are making yet another appearance this fall/winter season. One thing I like about olive is the neutrality of the color, yet olive colored pants add more interest than a regular pair of jeans or black leggings.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

a light snow at night

just a tad too blurry! :/
Coat: H&M Rings: Kate Spade, Henri Bendel Shirt: Nordstrom Pants: F21 (old, similar here) Boots: Ralph Lauren

The first snow of the season came shortly after daylight savings. I wanted to do an outfit post, but there was barely any light! (And it was only 4:30pm!) It was the first time I've taken night photos with this camera, and quite a few came out blurry (like the full-length one in the middle). I'm excited I got it to work, though! I kept my aperture wide and shutter speed at 1 second. I'm excited that I know how to work light settings at night - this will come in handy during Christmas time and taking pictures of all the lights!

two-tone boots

Shirt: Madewell similar Belt: Nordstrom Pants: Forever 21 (old) similar color Bracelets: Forever 21 (old ) similar Boots: Ralph Lauren, DSW Watch: Michael Kors

Today marks the end of my last Fall Family Weekend. My parents came to visit and got to see me perform with dance team, and we got to go out to eat. I am wearing these olive pants - again! The color is so versatile. I also just got these two-tone boots. The top is dark brown and the rest is black. These will also become a versatile staple in my wardrobe.

I call this my blair waldorf hat

Squinting in the sun!

Hat: Nordstrom Shirt, flats: Nordstrom (old) Pants: Forever 21 (similar) Watch: Michael Kors

Yesterday I went to Greenbluff, which is a collection of farms up north. Fall is so much fun at Greenbluff; they are famous for their pumpkin donuts, caramel apples, baked treats, pumpkin and apple picking...lots of fun activities!

It was love at first sight with this hat. One shopping trip brought me to this beautiful accessory and I just could not justify leaving without it. It reminds me of something Blair Waldorf would wear - and I just had to post this today, on the day of the Gossip Girl season premiere! Though the rest of the outfit isn't very "Blair," I thought the colors worked well together. My lovely friends were kind enough to put up with me and take some photos of my outfit :) haha. The background is too pretty to not use for an outfit photo! Plus, I was wearing my Blair Waldorf hat. Which will likely make more appearances this fall/winter.

tiger striped sunglasses; nautical striped shirt

Hello, man on the bike!
Sunglasses: Marc Jacobs Shirt, earrings, belt: Nordstrom: earringssimilar tank, similar belts Pants, bracelets: Forever 21 (similar pants)(similar bracelets) Shoes: Sperry Ring: Kate Spade (similar ring) Watch: Michael Kors

This is the first day I've worn pants! (Well, since school started). Today was sunny and windy, but since I've been feeling a little under the weather I decided to dress warmer. My striped tank is new, and I thought the orange would go well with these super comfortable olive pants. I love the combination of orange and green.

plaid & stripes with olive pants

Button-up shirt: Madewell Necklace: Muses & Rebels Pants: F21 Boots: Corso Como Watch: Michael Kors Ring: Kate Spade

Since I only have about twenty minutes between getting home from rock climbing and leaving for classes, I'm always in a rush! I sometimes just switch out my leggings and sneakers for jeans and flats and throw on a hoodie before heading to class. But today was different - I picked out my outfit before rock climbing. I should've realized this earlier...it's just like choosing the next day's outfit before bed so you don't have to groggily put something together the next morning. Sometimes I can throw together a rockin' outfit in a rush, but it's much nicer to have the clothes laid out and ready to go.

I used to wear these olive-colored jeans all the time last year, but haven't lately. I decided to pull 'em back out and pair them with the plaid button-up and striped belt. The boots add a neutral contrast and the accessories play off the colors in the rest of my outfit.
