friday's fancies - pretty in plaid

This week's Friday's Fancies theme with Long Distance Loving is pretty in plaid. I found this amazing (and inexpensive!) blanket scarf in fall's favorite print. I love how the traditional red color combo and also how the size of the scarf can double as a blanket - when it's not making a statement. ;)

For the rest of the outfit, I chose not-so-simple basics: a neutral-colored sweater with side buttons and elbow patches from J. Crew, a faux leather mini (been seeing these everywhere!), and black ankle booties. The blue snakeskin bag has a fun shape and print to add a little something "extra" to the outfit.

friday's fancies - pretty in plaid [and a day late!]

I totally spaced on Friday's Fancies yesterday. Yesterday was an interesting day - I had gone to a meeting at 7am (running on less than 5 hours of sleep...) and then came home and had the longest nap ever. I slept for three hours! When I woke up it felt like a different day. Finals are starting to get to me...Anyways, this week's theme with long distance loving is Pretty in Plaid. Here is my outfit:

two-tone boots

Today marks the end of my last Fall Family Weekend. My parents came to visit and got to see me perform with dance team, and we got to go out to eat. I am wearing these olive pants - again! The color is so versatile. I also just got these two-tone boots. The top is dark brown and the rest is black. These will also become a versatile staple in my wardrobe.

Olive, brown, and navy are all neutrals, but when paired together, they work and mix things up! These colors basically match anything, so I added the red in the shirt and ring to liven up the sort-of dreary colors.

Short post today, I need to head to class!

Since I only have about twenty minutes between getting home from rock climbing and leaving for classes, I'm always in a rush! I sometimes just switch out my leggings and sneakers for jeans and flats and throw on a hoodie before heading to class. But today was different - I picked out my outfit before rock climbing. I should've realized this earlier...it's just like choosing the next day's outfit before bed so you don't have to groggily put something together the next morning. Sometimes I can throw together a rockin' outfit in a rush, but it's much nicer to have the clothes laid out and ready to go.

I used to wear these olive-colored jeans all the time last year, but haven't lately. I decided to pull 'em back out and pair them with the plaid button-up and striped belt. The boots add a neutral contrast and the accessories play off the colors in the rest of my outfit.

As fall/winter fashion continues, three prints have stood out to me as major trends to define the season: Animal, Navajo, and Plaid.

 

 

I went over to Lookbook to find some inspiration on these prints to share them with you! Lookbook is my all-time favorite site to browse street style. The men and women on the site put together the most artistic, creative, and beautiful outfits and always inspire me to up my game in the style department.

Today we're looking at animal print. Right now leopard is really popular, but other animal patterns will work as well! Add an animal print accessory for just a touch of the print or go more full-out with jeans or a fur coat. It's up to you - just make sure to add fierce confidence.
