christmas playlist 2013

It's "officially" the holiday season! At home we usually decorate before Thanksgiving and listen to Christmas music at Thanksgiving dinner. But Black Friday officially marks the beginning of the holiday season, and the best way to get in the spirit is with a little music.

Here are some songs that are on my playlist this year:

Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) by Michael Buble
You can't go wrong with this one. It's so catchy!

I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas from the Home Alone soundtrack
Me and my friends last year would always sing this version...the ba do ba do, doo doo at the beginning...the high-pitched I-I-I-I'm dreaming, of a white, CHRISTMAS! We were so goofy and it was fun.

Hey Guys! It's Christmas Time! by Sufjan Stevens
I love this one. Sufjan Stevens's Christmas album is pretty alternative/folk-y (some great ones on there) but I like how this one is more upbeat.

All I Want For Christmas by Mariah Carey
Classic; no explanation needed.

What's on your Christmas playlist this year?

happy thanksgiving! "friendsgiving" and 80s night photos!

Happy Thanksgiving! We celebrated in Florence with a "friendsgiving" last night since we'll all be traveling tonight and going to different places. I'm definitely not blessed with culinary skills (maybe it's just being lazy about cooking, ha) so I helped with groceries...and that's about it. Oh, I helped eat it too. Does that count?

Sam and Mollie made the most delicious turkey:
We also had mashed potatoes (my favorite side dish), carrot souffle, green bean casserole, and apple pie.
There was also a store-bought cake that I jokingly told everyone I made from scratch. One of the guys believed me. The rest knew me too well. ;)

On Tuesday we hosted an 80s Rock party at one of the bars in Florence. It was a lot of fun to dress up and listen to the music.
I straightened Rory's massive curly hair! Cam drew on fake (and pretty funny) tattoos. The boys were wearing crazy printed leggings, a lot of denim, and wigs. So great.

Tonight I'm off to Prague for the weekend. There's been a lot of weekend trips lately. I'm excited because I haven't been to the Czech Republic yet and I've heard Prague is a beautiful city.

Hope you have an amazing Thanksgiving with family and friends!

photo diary: budapest, vienna, and salzburg [nov. 21-24]

Last weekend I went to Hungary and Austria for work and it was amazing! We went to Budapest, Hungary and Vienna and Salzburg, Austria. I tried goulash for the first time in Budapest and it was amazing. We went to the thermal baths to relax after a long walking tour of the city and then to a ruins bar at night. In Vienna, we did another walking tour of the city and it was so beautiful! The Christmas Market in Vienna was amazing and I picked up a couple Christmas presents for my parents. Stopping at Starbucks was a must in Vienna as well. On Sunday we were in Salzburg for just a few hours and did a Sound of Music tour. The movie was filmed in Salzburg and we got to see the water from the boat scene, the gazebo, and the church! We unfortunately didn't have enough time to see the Mirabell Gardens because of the weather.

tumblr wednesday(?) #78

Happy Wednesday... this week's Tumblr "Saturday" is a few days late, my apologies! The internet went out in my apartment again before I went on my trip to Hungary and Austria and has been spotty since I got back. #typicalitaly. Here are some of my recent faves on Tumblr (photos from my trip and other posts are coming soon!):
Getting excited for Christmas :) love all the Lilly wrapping paper! A pink and green Christmas is almost as nice as red and green! Can you believe Thanksgiving is tomorrow?
Aww, I saw this cute little panda photo on a t-shirt at this boutique in Florence recently.

I know it's a summery skirt, but I am obsessing over it! I put this photo up on The Hunt to find any leads of where it's from. If you know where I can find this, please let me know! :)
obsessed with these. anyone know where I can find a pair?!
Loving everything "fox" for fall!
Harry Potter at Christmas time...I finished the series for the first time ever last summer (wasn't allowed to read them growing up) and still haven't seen movies 4-7.

taking a european road trip

This weekend I'm working on our 3 city tour in Budapest, Vienna, and Salzburg. We hit three cities in two gorgeous countries. I haven't been to these places yet so I am very excited - going to the Turkish baths in Budapest (didn't make it to one during my weekend in Istanbul), the palaces in Vienna, and being in the land where the filmed The Sound of Music in Salzburg!

I'll post photos when I get back, but follow on Instagram and Twitter in the meantime for updates :)
