navy blue sparkles :) #ootd

J. Crew top | J. Crew skirt (similar here and here) | French Connection bag | DSW heels (similar) | Michael Kors watch

The day before I left for DC, I was going to take photos of this outfit...and then I realized I had left my DSLR camera at a friend's house. I took to the phone camera mirror selfies instead...so here they are! This is a fun way to wear sparkles-on-sparkles at night. For work, I wear the same top-skirt combo but with navy tights and flats instead.

m street at night

C. Wonder top (on sale!) | Longchamp bag | Martin + Osa peacoat (old, but similar here and also loving this blue one) | Trouve leggings (similar here and here) | Nordstrom sunglasses (similar

Just quickly posting a few photos from strolling around M Street earlier this week. M Street is definitely my favorite shopping spot in the DC area. Now it's back to work - I've been working some pretty long days but love what I do, so it's all good. I will say that I am very excited to get some sleep tonight!

Thanks for stopping by :)

friday's fancies: work wear

I haven't had a chance to partake in Friday's Fancies with Long Distance Loving for a couple weeks, but am excited to be back this week! The theme is work wear. While I currently wear whatever for my current job, over the summer the dress code for my job in DC/NYC was business casual.

I am lusting over that bright pink Milly dress! Anything bright pink catches my eye. A watch is a necessary component to any work outfit, and this Kate Spade one is simple but still pretty.

guest blogger - aryn from giraffes + garlic + glamour!

Good morning! Or whatever time it is wherever you are. Actually, it's night time for me. I should be getting to bed...anyways, last week I guest posted on my friend Aryn's blog (you can read it here) and today she is so kind to post for me! Enjoy :)

--------

Greetings Sunny Sweetheart readers! I'm Aryn from Giraffes + Garlic + Glamour and I am so excited to guest blogging for Ally today. Ally and I are actually friends in real life and traveled to Italy together two summers ago, so putting together this guest post today for you all has been a real treat.

When I think of spring my first thought is floral print. But it seems that every passing spring brings brighter and bolder printed pieces of clothing. This season I already have a lot of favorite prints that aren't even florals. Ikat, polka dot, water color, animal prints - I love them all! Adding pieces with these unique prints is a quick way to make an outfit edgy or more feminine. Try mixing prints with pastels, neutrals and even leather.

Here are some of my favorite spring printed pieces. Enjoy!

Thank you so much Ally for having me today!

-------

Thank YOU, Aryn for posting! :D I love all of the pieces above, especially the printed bangles and the adorable sea horse cosmetics case.

color blocking with a hair bow

Shirt Nordstrom (old) Jeans Hudson Flats (my mom's closet) Watch Michael Kors Bow Forever 21 Earrings Tory Burch

It was actually sunny for the first time in a long time, so naturally, I forgot my sunglasses....I had, like, one full length photo with my eyes open. Ugh, not my best pic. Haha.

Earlier I had a 7am networking meeting. Being a college student, that is so early for me. But, as always, it was worth it once I got there. This is what I wore (don't worry, there were other people in jeans too!)

I also went to Lululemon for the sole purpose of getting a headband. They didn't have the headband, but I ended up getting a tank! Of course...I think I like shopping a little too much.

colored jeans for fall + messy fishtail braid

As for today's photo, it seemed like practically the whole campus decides to walk or drive by right when I decided to take it. I now have the whole awkward smile-really-fast-and-run-out-of-the-street thing down GOOD. ;)
Jacket, earrings: Nordstrom (old) Jeans: GJG Denim Flats: my mother's closet (similar) Watch: Michael Kors Sunglasses: Chanel

Since I loveeeee my ballet pink colored jeans, I wanted to wear them in a "fall" way. The weather hasn't totally switched over here in the inland northwest, so I threw on a light jacket in olive - one of my favorite neutrals - and leopard printed flats with the bright, pink jeans. Since the colored denim trend has exploded, I thought, why let the beautiful bright and pastel colored denim go to waste?

Whether it is adding a jacket and flats or a scarf and boots, there are plenty of ways to "fall up" your spring-colored skinnies. Let me know how you plan to wear bright colored denim this fall!

PS - I finally made the plunge...and registered my own domain!!!!! This blog is now officially sunnysweetheart.com. I've been planning on doing this for forever, so I finally just did it this afternoon. Eek :D

yay or nay: leopard hair streak

Okay, first off - I can't believe I haven't blogged in days! I felt like I had finally gotten back into the swing of things, but right when that happened, a TON of homework hit me. Darn that PR campaign class....

Anyways, I was perusing Pinterest recently and saw this pin of a girl with a leopard printed streak of hair.  The article it links to explains that the hairstylist uses permanent hair dye to freehand the spots on that section of the hair.
Animal Print Hair
I think that is actually a really unique idea. There could be so many colors and patterns to choose from! And with the colored-hair craze going strong, I have an inkling this trend might continue to grow.

Or, at least, we'll see Snooki sporting the look.

While this I think this is creative, I personally would not want this done to my hair. It looks a little 13-year-old to me. Though I'm sure there are older girls who could rock the style if it fits their personality.

What do you think? Yay or Nay on the leopard-streaked hair?

printed tanks from h&m

I saw this adorable H&M tank online recently (the one below, center). I love how it says "au revoir" across the middle with the gold anchor - very spring-nautical. The other two tanks below are in the same style, just different patterns! Click here to shop these tanks and for even more colors and styles.

simple black & white

Blazer: Nordstrom White tank: H&M Black tank, jeans, elephant ring, necklace: F21 Double ring: Swank Boutique Bracelets: Juicy Couture Flats: Divided

Today I decided to keep most of my outfit neutral, besides the leopard-printed flats and neon pink bracelet. I liked how a seemingly plain outfit base - a white tank and skinny jeans - can look more put together just by throwing on a blazer and a pair of polished flats. The pendant on the necklace is a little ballerina wearing a black tutu (I wish the neclace was just a little bit longer) and the black ring is shaped like an elephant! I like adding fun little details like that to a simple black and white outfit.

floppy hat & neutrals

The camera caught me mid-smile! #awk
Hat: American Eagle Sweater: Aritzia Tank, skinnies: Nordstrom Bracelets: F21 Ring: Kate Spade Watch: Michael Kors Flats: Divided

The only "color" I'm wearing today is the red stone on my ring! Wow! I put together this whole outfit without thinking about adding a bright color, which is unusual for me. I did wear neon pink to the gym this morning, though. :)

I needed a definite caffeine boost so I ordered my first grande size coffee at Starbucks - I usually just get the tall! I was so tired and needed to focus for my midterm today, which ended up going really well! The exams tomorrow are my big ones, so this post will have to be cut short so I can tackle my many to-do lists. Have a great Wednesday!

cable knit and leopard print

Sweater: J. Crew Headband: Henri Bendel Necklace: Muses & Rebels Ring: Kate Spade Bracelets, tank: F21 Watch: Michael Kors Jeans: Nordstrom Flats: unknown (aka my mother's closet)

I went for a classic look today with a cable knit sweater, skinny jeans, and leopard-printed flats and added the accessories to put more life into the outfit. I just realized the color scheme exactly mimics my bedroom - I didn't even mean to do that! I love the combination of red and purple, and the animal print packs an extra punch.

After getting only a few hours of sleep last night, I needed some rest this afternoon. I watched an episode of Dance Moms (so much crazy, so much awesome) and took a short nap. Now it's back to business before performing at the last men's basketball game tonight!

Oh yeah, the second photo was taken in my bathroom because I wanted to get a closeup of my accessories. Total MySpace mirror pic right there. Don't mind the awkward green hand towels in the corner. Haha.
