mean girls monday: week 4

Outfit:
Michael Kors sweater | Luisa Via Roma skirt | YSL shoes | River Island hoop earrings | River Island handbag | Etsy (BluegrassSassLC) bow

It is Week 4 of Mean Girls Monday and this quote is from the beginning of the movie on Cady's first day of school. It's kind of random and kind of hilarious. I've been seeing a lot of wire necklaces in the shape of states or countries lately, and I thought they would be perfect to compliment this quote. As for the outfit, I was inspired by Cady's light pink and periwinkle blue color combination, which she wore a couple of times in the movie. The cut of the skirt is more updated, and instead of a ribbed henley tee, I used a pretty pink cashmere sweater instead.

"There's a Mean Girls quote for everything," I like to say. To celebrate the movie's 10 year anniversary (it came out on April 30, 2004), I'm doing a series on Sunny Sweetheart called Mean Girls Monday, where I share an outfit inspired by a quote from the movie! While the classic quotes are 2004, the outfit will be "updated" to make it look fashionable in 2014. Check back for next week's Mean Girls Monday with a new outfit inspired by one of the iconic quotes!

spring neutrals

Nordstrom jacket (similar) | Marc by Marc Jacobs sunglasses | Nordstrom belt | Gap jeans | Michael Kors watch | J. Crew bracelet (similar) | Victoria's Secret nail polish in "String Bikini"

It's officially the first day of spring! While I wish it were warmer, it felt nice to wear a light jacket and not a coat or sweater. I kept the outfit pretty neutral, but with bubble gum pink nails and some heeled booties.

friday's fancies - pretty in plaid

This week's Friday's Fancies theme with Long Distance Loving is pretty in plaid. I found this amazing (and inexpensive!) blanket scarf in fall's favorite print. I love how the traditional red color combo and also how the size of the scarf can double as a blanket - when it's not making a statement. ;)

For the rest of the outfit, I chose not-so-simple basics: a neutral-colored sweater with side buttons and elbow patches from J. Crew, a faux leather mini (been seeing these everywhere!), and black ankle booties. The blue snakeskin bag has a fun shape and print to add a little something "extra" to the outfit.

friday's fancies - travel chic

This week's Friday's Fancies theme with Long Distance Loving is travel chic. I love the mixed materials on the J. Crew top (the sleeves are leather!) and the Lilly Pulitzer travel pants are supposed to be perfectly comfortable for travel. Add some boots, a cozy scarf, and a sleek cinnamon red MK bag and you're good to go!

friday's fancies - tanked!

This week's Friday's Fancies with Long Distance Loving is tanked! While I wear tank tops literally all year round (layered, of course, in the winter), the middle of the summer is the perfect time to go sleeveless and show off those bronzed shoulders!

This tank from Asos is super trendy so I paired it with classic, red skinny pants and neutral colored accessories. The colors work really well together and all play off the fun print on the tank. This outfit would be perfect for brunch or an evening around town. For work, swap out the sandals for a pair of pumps and top it off with a blazer. And aren't you just swooning over this Michael Kors bag?! Since a Celine is currently out of my budget, I'm actually seriously considering MK's take on the similar silhouette.

times square

Forever 21 dress (similar) | Nordstrom cardigan | Report ballet flats (similar) | Michael Kors watch | J. Crew bracelet (similar) | Longchamp bag

We had a fun afternoon in Times Square, getting to walk around a little bit and eat at a delicious Cuban restaurant. I've never been to a Cuban restaurant, but I love trying new things. The sandwich and the plantain chips were delicious. It was fun to pose for these photos while walking across the street!

Remember to enter the project birthday giveaway if you have not already done so! You have until July 7th to enter and we will choose a winner on July 8th.

colorful skirt and chambray shirt

Nordstrom sunglasses | Lilly Pulitzer skirt | American Eagle shirt (similar) | GUESS wedges (similar) | Michael Kors watch | Max & Chloe necklace

It has been sunny these past few days (so happy) so of course I had to break out the spring clothes! I have a feeling this might not last, so I've been making sure to lay out and get a little color before it starts raining again. I'm pretty sure I got a little sunburnt today :/ we'll see in the morning, haha. I chose to wear this colorful skirt with a chambray button-up and wedges. I love the hidden pockets in this skirt!

Hope you're having a wonderful day!

weekend in the mountains

We had visit from a little deer family - you can see them in the background!

This weekend I went to Schweitzer in Northern Idaho with a few friends. We stayed at my friend's cabin and  had a relaxing day watching the snow fall outside. While I'm not the (biggest) fan of snow, I loved having it in the perfect setting - on a mountain! That makes sense, right?

And we also had a little visit from some deer right as I was taking my outfit photos! How cute.

orange, green, and the parent trap

Nordstrom: Tank, belt, sweater vest (old), jeans Watch: Michael Kors Shoes: Target Nail polish: Essie

I'm wearing a LOT from Nordstrom today! Almost my whole outfit...what can I say, it's my favorite store. I never would've thought that this sweater vest would go with the rest of the outfit, but I liked it! And I love love love the color combo of bright orange and bright green.
----------
So not only is today 10/11/12, but it's also the birthday of Annie and Hallie from The Parent Trap!
"How old are you?" "I'll be twelve on October 11th." "Really?! So will I!"
The Parent Trap was my all-time favorite movie for years when I was little. I even remember seeing it in theaters in second grade. My best friend Jenn and I would "play the Annie and Hallie game" every time we'd go to each other's houses. I was Hallie and Jenn was Annie. We had so much fun.

tiger striped sunglasses; nautical striped shirt

Hello, man on the bike!
Sunglasses: Marc Jacobs Shirt, earrings, belt: Nordstrom: earringssimilar tank, similar belts Pants, bracelets: Forever 21 (similar pants)(similar bracelets) Shoes: Sperry Ring: Kate Spade (similar ring) Watch: Michael Kors

This is the first day I've worn pants! (Well, since school started). Today was sunny and windy, but since I've been feeling a little under the weather I decided to dress warmer. My striped tank is new, and I thought the orange would go well with these super comfortable olive pants. I love the combination of orange and green.

turquoise on turquoise on turquoise

Shirt: Free People (similar) Shorts: Paige Denim (similar)Sandals: Dolce Vita (similar) Sunglasses: Chanel Earrings: New Look (London) Watch: Michael Kors (newer version) Bracelets: Forever 21

Turquoise high-low shirt. Turquoise Sandals. Turquoise toenails.
It's been a turquoise kind of day.

Fall seems to be heading our way sooner. It's really chilly in the shade but hot in the sun. I've seen quite the mix of outfits these past couple of days - some people are still wearing shorts and sandals (like me) and others are in tights, boots, scarves, and jackets.

When it's 75 degrees and sunny, it's a little cooler than summer...but I know frigid winter temps will be here sooner than I know it. So I'm easing into the fall transition with my long sleeves and sandals.

outfit to work

Tank, belt: Nordstrom Jeans: Rock & Republic Watch: Michael Kors Bracelets: F21 Necklace: Muses & Rebels Shoes: Tory Burch

Indoor outfit post today! I liked my outfit, but since today is going to be pretty hectic, I took a minute to take the photo inside. Hence, the awkward bathroom mirror photo (so myspace....haha)! I wore this outfit to work. These skinnies have a very dark wash and a waxy finish. I streamlined the pants with a silky-ish black tank, and black flats, and added some metallic accessories. Now, looking back, I wish I would've added some more color! Overall, I like how black can make an outfit seem a little more dressed up.

downtown

Shirt: Nordstrom Jeans: GJG Denim Shoes: Steve Madden Bag, belt: American Eagle Watch: Michael Kors

I'm wearing these jeans AGAIN! Even though they are pink, the color is so versatile and I am able to put together many different outfits with this pair. I played off the pink color with the beads on my shoes, and wore the striped shirt to add a pattern. I tucked the shirt in in just the front to show the belt, and finished the look off with more neutral accessories.

olive & gold

Jacket: Arden B Shirt: Macy's Shorts: Rock & Republic Watch: Michael Kors Bracelets: F21 Shoes: Sperry Ring: Nordstrom

I was going to take this photo outside on this gorgeous, sunny day, but I forgot my camera at home! I took a photo inside instead and was happy this I got a decent photo on the first shot. I have to go to work in a few minutes! Super fast post today.

About the outfit - I like using olive as a neutral but enjoy how it still adds a bit of subtle color. Of course, I add some shine with the sparkles on the tank, accessories, and soft gold metallic shoes, but wear simple denim shorts to not make the outfit over the top.

Happy Tuesday!

white on white

Tank: Free People Shorts: H&M Sunglasses: Marc Jacobs Shoes: Sperry Necklace: Subdued Firenze Watch: Michael Kors Bracelets: F21 Bandeau: Brandy Melville

Today it is 80 degrees and SUNNY! Sun is my favorite weather and I could not be happier right now. A few friends and I went to a late breakfast at an Italian restaurant (a few photos to come) and it was so great. Florentine eggs benedict, iced mochas, and good conversation. The restaurant we went to had garage doors that open up. The sunshine poured in on this nice day. What a great start to a Sunday/SUNday. Get it? Bad joke? Haha?

I decided to wear as summery of an outfit I could pull together in five minutes. I chose this lacy hi-low shirt from Free People. The back of the tank has cool wooden beads sewn onto it. Simple white denim shorts and gold accessories finished off the outfit. I wore a black bandeau because the tank is a little baggy. Now I'm going head out and spend the rest of the day outside!

Here's the back of the shirt - you can kind of see the wooden beaded detail! This photo was taken on Elba Island in Italy...ahh the days. :)

spring has sprung! sparkles and shorts

Sunglasses: Marc Jacobs Shirt: H&M Shorts: Rock & Republic Belt, shoes: American Eagle Watch: Michael Kors Bracelets: F21 Ring (left hand/right side of photo): Nordstrom Ring (right hand/left side of photo): a market in Italy

The weather is warming up so I just had to wear shorts! No tights, no leggings, no scarves, coats, or gloves. Spring has sprung, and I really hope it stays this way.

For my spring outfit, I decided to tuck in this baggy shirt into denim shorts and belt it. Since the shirt has a lot of sparkle, this tones it down a little and pulls everything together.

The Marc Jacobs sunglasses are one of my favorite pairs! I like retro-inspired-wayfarer-ish style and the rims along the top have a subtle, olive tiger print.

blue floral dress & black

Dress: Nordstrom Sweater: Macy's Earrings, belt, bracelets: F21 Watch: Michael Kors

It is warm today!!!!!!! (Notice the amount of exclamation points. I am very happy.) I am even writing this post outside, on a bench on campus. If only I had the time to take the photo outside...

I wore a blue floral dress that shows its sheerness at the bottom and added big green earrings to touch on the hint of green in the floral print. I kept the outfit simple and not overdone but finishing it off with basic black accessories: a cardigan, a belt to cinch in my waist, and black patent Tory Burch flats (not pictured).

working girl

Dress: Nordstrom Cardigan: J. Crew Tights, bracelets: F21 Watch: Michael Kors Heels: Steve Madden

Today I met with the people who I will be working with for my internship this summer! It was exciting to learn what I will be helping out with. I wore a semi-dressed up outfit, and whipped out my favorite pair of heels. I softened all of the black and white with a punchy pink cardigan and accessories. Apparently, since I'll be working with/at/near summer camps, I don't need to dress up every day. "Camp" clothes are all I really need to wear, except for a few events. So while I don't get an excuse to go shopping for business-casual clothes, I get to wear my favorite comfy shorts and sandals. Not a bad tradeoff for the summer.

colored denim

Jeans: GJG Denim Shirt, all bracelets: F21 Heels: Steve Madden Watch: Michael Kors

I have been looking for a pair of jeans this exact color for over a year! I walked into a boutique nearby and BAM! There they were. The color is described as coral, but I would say it's a ballet pink. Not the baby girl light ballet pink, but the same color as this one specific pair of my old ballet tights. Try telling that to a salesperson or putting it into a search engine. No wonder I never found this color until now.

Not only are these jeans the perfect color pink, but they are relatively cheap ($47) and are super comfortable. I already have so many outfits planned to wear with them....

We saw a bunch of red and royal blue jeans last fall, which I sort of liked but never got any. However, I am so glad that colored denim (lots of pastels and brights) will be HUGE for spring!
